About Mustang

The Ford Mustang is the original American muscle car. This car gave rise to other high-performance vehicles such as the AMC Javelin, Dodge Challenger, and Plymouth Barracuda. The first generation Mustang was manufactured from 1965 to 1973. The legendary Mustang Fastback 2+2 was introduced in 1964.

What many people don’t know is the first-gen Mustang was loosely based on the Ford Falcon and Ford Fairlane. Most of the interior components, chassis, drivetrain, and suspension components of the original Mustang were based on the Falcon and Fairlane. Despite this, there were more than 1 million Mustangs built and sold during the first eighteen months of production.

The second generation pony car was sold between 1974 and 1978. The car was based on the Ford Pinto to come up with a smaller, lighter, and more fuel efficient design. The second-gen Mustang was introduced approximately two months before the first oil crisis of 1973.

The third generation Mustang (Fox body) was sold from 1979 to 1993 and was available in coupe, convertible, and hatchback body styles. The fourth generation SN-95 Mustang was sold between 1994 and 2004 and was the first major redesign of the muscle car in fifteen years. The New Edge Mustang was introduced in 1999 and featured larger wheel arches with sharper styling cues to make it look more modern than the SN-95.

The fifth generation S-197 Mustang was sold in 2005 to 2014. The car had similar styling cues to the original 1965 Fastback Mustang. The sixth generation S-550 Mustang was introduced in 2013 and was sold from 2015 up to the present. The modern Mustang has a wider and lower stance along with a newly-developed IRS or independent rear suspension to deliver better handling and a smoother ride.
