Many automotive service procedures require access to the underside of the vehicle or the wheel ends, so one of the most basic aspects of automotive repair is raising and safely supporting the vehicle. The vehicle can be raised using drive on ramps, but if more height is needed or the wheels must be removed, a jack and jack stands are required.
