Spark plug
The
spark plug supplies the spark that ignites the air/fuel mixture so that
combustion can occur. The spark must happen at just the right moment
for things to work properly.
Valves
The
intake and exhaust valves open at the proper time to let in air and
fuel and to let out exhaust. Note that both valves are closed during
compression and combustion so that the combustion chamber is sealed.
Piston
A piston is a cylindrical piece of metal that moves up and down inside the cylinder.
Piston rings
Piston
rings provide a sliding seal between the outer edge of the piston and
the inner edge of the cylinder. The rings serve two purposes:
Connecting rod
The
connecting rod connects the piston to the crankshaft. It can rotate at
both ends so that its angle can change as the piston moves and the
crankshaft rotates.
Crankshaft
The crankshaft turns the piston's up and down motion into circular motion just like a crank on a jack-in-the-box does.
Sump
The sump surrounds the crankshaft. It contains some amount of oil, which collects in the bottom of the sump (the oil pan).

There are many reasons why the engine in a car will need block sleeves. The block sleeves are utilized to protect the cylinder bore and prevent damage. The block sleeves are also utilized to restore the bore size of the cylinder to repair a cracked or damaged motor. Although block sleeves are commonly utilized in gasoline-powered engines, diesel engines can also benefit from this device. The dry block sleeve is designed not to come into contact with the engine coolant. The wet block sleeve is intended to come in direct contact with the coolant. The cam gear is the gear attached to the camshaft. The camshaft is what opens and closes your exhaust & intake valves. The cam gear is connected to a belt, which connects to your crankshaft. The belt synchronizes the valve timing (opening & closing of the valves) with the appropriate strokes of the crank.
The camshaft, or cam for short, opens and closes the intake and exhaust valves, allowing the fresh air/fuel mixture to enter the cylinder for combustion, and the spent gases to flow out. Most production cams are iron castings that are supported on journals that rotate in bearings, with individual eccentric lobes to actuate each valve. A single cam can be located in the cylinder block, or one or two cams can be mounted on the cylinder head.
The pistons are the mechanical components that bear the pressure from combustion that is ultimately turned into vehicle motion. Piston rings form the seal between the pistons and cylinder walls, and the connecting rods connect the pistons to the crankshaft, converting the reciprocating motion of the pistons to the rotating motion of the crankshaft, which turns the gears in the transmission, the axle shafts, and ultimately the wheels.
The crankshaft turns the reciprocating motion of the pistons and connecting rods into the rotational motion that turns the transmission gears, axle shafts, and ultimately the wheels. The crankshaft turns on its axis in the cylinder block. The connecting rods are attached to offset crank throws, which enable the conversion of motion. Cast iron is commonly used to make low output engine crankshafts, while forged steel is needed for high horsepower motors.
Cylinder-head bolts are the design elements of the cylinder head sealing system that generate the required surface pressure, transmitting it to the engine components. This requires that the cylinder-head bolts be tightened in close compliance with the specified instructions and in the specified sequence.
There are many different kinds of bearings used on automobiles, including ball and roller bearings, needle bearings, and tapered roller bearings, but the bearings that are commonly used inside the engine are called plain bearings. These bearings are either cylindrical or are made of two inserts that form an enclosure. Components like the crankshaft and camshaft rotate on plain bearings supported by a film of oil. Oil is supplied under pressure by the engine oil pump.
The head gasket is compressed between the engine block and the cylinder head. The head gasket seals in the internal combustion process and also keeps coolant and oil from mixing together as the two fluids travel from the engine block to the cylinder head. Head gaskets themselves are not very expensive. What ends up costing big money is getting to it. Head gasket repairs mean undertaking the major operation of removing an engine's head.

A Stroker Kit is an aftermarket assembly that increases the displacement of a reciprocating engine by increasing the travel of the piston (that is, the piston moves further up and/or down in the cylinder). This is done by using a different crankshaft where the crank pin is moved further away from the center of the axis of rotation of the crankshaft. While this increases displacement and torque it can potentially lower the limit to which the motor can rev safely compared to the stock configuration.
